Wee Care Parent Group Meeting 3.8.2010



The meeting had a great turn out with some new faces which is always nice to have as we loose parents in the group. We hope this is a continuing trend for our newer parents to just stop by and maybe voice some opinions.

With the last meeting being canceled we had a lot to cover in this meeting so bare with me as my notes where not complete.

Barb K.



For those who did not know Barb K., who has touched so many of our children though the years with her kindness, has passed away. The parents group wanted to do something to remember her for her deeds, and just for the kind of person she was.

Ideas where:
A small scholarship for students thinking of entering into early child hood development

There also was the idea for doing a donation of a book that she liked to a local library with some kind of inscription

Some suggested the possibility of getting a brick for Barb at the movie theater, which would be a longer lasting remembrance of her.

No idea was fully adopted yet members are looking into the cost to determine which of these would be in the best interest of the group.

Responsibilities



For those who do not know, presently a lot of the slack for the parent group gets picked up by Charity. While in the past it was never an issue and she has always done what ever she can for the group, it is really unfair for her, with a family and demanding job to be putting so much of her own personal time into the group. Also to bring to the attention of those who do not realize it but eventually her children will not be in the daycare and she will be done with the group. It would be prudent for the group to bring some of the parents who will be there longer into a more visible role, leadership role if you will. It would only benefit the long term success of the group.

We will be loosing Britney this year which is tough cause she has been at the forefront of the group for sometime and it will be a big blow to the group. Her leaving opened a spot on the financial side that will need to be filled for the group.

Events will now have a lead person who will coordinate the planning, and everyone is welcome to help but this lead person will take pressure off of Charity. Colleen will take the lead on the summer Picnic. Other events will be volunteer basis as they come up.
Summer Picnic

Colleen will be taking the lead on our summer picnic/graduation ceremony. It was decided that it may be a bit early to choose a date for the event, but Colleen did volunteer to take the lead on the event and begin some small planning until the group decides to take a more active approach to planning the event.

Week of the Small Child



Week of the Small Child will be coming up and some discussion took place as to events possibly to have for the children. Priority Kids will once again be done for the parents during this week. Some talk of bringing Tom Knight back again, however with him coming to the Sayre park it may be better to bring in a new variety of performers the kids may not be familiar with. Some concern was also brought up of some of our children don’t start until the afternoon, suggestion was to ensure the events are able to be staggered or stacked so that kids can enjoy them in the morning, and afternoon. It was believed there would be enough events we could stack and stagger to make this a really good Week of the Small Child. If you know of or want to suggest a performer please let Cathy S. know.

Gertrude Hawk Candy Bar Sale



This is probably our best fundraiser, and its approaching. Some discussion as to how many boxes to order this year, and when to start. We will be selling these bars two weeks before Easter. Some changes this year parents will be given numbers and dates and times for when a member of the group will be available to pick up money or dist candy bars, it is unfair of us to expect the teachers to keep track of this money as it comes in. This will slow allow us to have better control of the fundraiser. We talked about increasing our order but choose to keep it at the same as last year to avoid being stuck with too many bars. We can always order more if needed, min was discussed and is 25 boxes for free freight.

Subway



This is a constant discussion and we have put it off a lot, we have the tokens with the parent groups name on them and will do this in the summer to avoid running it concurrent with other subway fundraisers and school fundraising. This was by far the best way to do this fundraiser and we can’t wait to see how it works.

Playground Clean Up



This was discussed and quickly pushed off as the playground currently is located under a tundra. We will revisit this at the next meeting pending a thaw.
